Geonoesis Ltd is a startup SME based on its founder’s experience and involved in the following activities
Geonoesis Ltd currently develops with the aim of CUT, a system that combines several independent, low cost parts (GPS/GNSS, INS/IMU, conventional action cams), in order to acquire, create, manage, and exploit georeferenced photogrammetric moving video streams used for surveying purposes. This system is the working prototype serving as the foundation of this proposal, and is currently employed in order to perform topographic surveys and collect urban infrastructure data such as lighting pylons, road traffic signs e.t.c. |
The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) was established by law in December 2003, and enrolled its first students in September 2007. It is a new, public, and independent University and has set high values concerning its academic character, legal status, organizational and administrative structure; it’s characterized by its high level procedure for staff selection, and its relationship with the state. Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) has as its strategic target the design and development of research activities both within the University and in cooperation with other research Institutes in Cyprus and abroad. The research emphasis of CUT is reflected in the substantial funding provided to academics for the establishment of research centers and laboratories. CUT research and academic staff is involved in various Research Activities and National and European Research Programmes. Even though CUT initiated its research activity very recently, it has already managed to dispose of a significant number, of National Research Projects funded by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and of European Research Projects funded under the European Research Framework Programmes (FP6 and FP7), the LIFE and IEE Programmes, the European Territorial Cooperation Programmes and other. In details, CUT research and academic staff is involved in approximately 150 Projects with a total funding/contribution over than 19M Euro. The Photogrammetric Vision Lab of the Cyprus University of Technology CUT, was established in 2010 by Dr. D. Skarlatos. The lab has gained a lot of experience in underwater 3D mapping by providing support in Mazotos shipwreck excavation since 2010. During these years, in cooperation with University of Cyprus, the lab gained considerable experience in underwater documentation and 3D data acquisition, as well as using SfM and MVS to create colour 3D point clouds using open source and in house software. The methodology of acquiring, processing and georeferencing 3D dense point clouds in daily basis, has been elaborated and perfected in such a degree that now poses a trivial process. The lab is participating in H2020 RIA project, iMARECULTURE. The lab has also significant experience in 3D acquisition techniques as using laser scanners, both hand held and terrestrial to record artefact, sites or monuments in land. In addition the lab is equipped with 6 fixed wing and multi rotor UAVs for 3D aerial mapping. Therefore Image Based acquisition techniques and laser scanning are among the expertise of the lab. Additionally, the lab being in a Geomatics department has significant experience in Geographic Information Systems and Data Base Management and is currently trying to combine expertise in order to connect timely 3D models with the existing DBs of Mazotos excavation. Initial tests have shown the feasibility of the task, but extended work is needed before a prototype is fully developed. |
